Job SummaryThe Senior Legal Counsel will reside in the Legal Services & Governance Division (LSG) and report to the Vice President & General Counsel, Corporate & Governance. They will serve as a key business partner and legal advisor to internal clients, providing high‑quality, business‑focused legal advice on a wide range of operational and corporate matters and managing governance‑related legal risk.
What You Will DoProvide subject‑matter expertise and strategic legal advice to the Corporate & Governance legal team and other HOOPP divisions.
Responsibilities include:
- Working directly with business partners and LSG members to build collaborative relationships.
- Integrating HOOPP’s mission, values, and compliance best practices into the work of LSG.
- Advising on corporate contracts, procurement, governance, pension law, advocacy, lobbying and policy development.
- Developing and maintaining legal precedents and resources that reflect best practices.
- Coordinating external counsel to resolve issues efficiently and cost‑effectively.
- Staying abreast of emerging legal issues relevant to HOOPP’s operations and strategic objectives.
- Monitoring legislation, regulations and common law, and advising partners on significant changes.
- Providing ongoing education and training on legal topics and best practices.
- Fostering a culture of service excellence and accountability within the team.
- Performing additional duties assigned by management.
- Law Degree from an accredited law school (J.D. or LL.B.).
- Called to the Ontario bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Minimum of 10 years corporate law experience in a law firm, government organization, or corporate environment.
- In‑depth knowledge and experience in relevant areas of law and demonstrated thought leadership.
- Strong drafting skills for a wide range of documents and agreements.
- Experience counselling clients and serving as a trusted advisor.
- Practical, principled advice with business solutions.
- Strong work ethic and drive, with a full commitment to excellence.

- Effective collaborator who builds trust with colleagues and partners.
- Commitment to excellent client service and proactive communication.
