Commercial Litigation Lawyer
Base pay range
CA$/yr – CA$/yr
Responsibilities SummaryHandle broad range of commercial litigation matters with a focus on debt recovery, collections, and enforcement proceedings. Role requires strong advocacy skills, practical problem‑solving abilities, and the capacity to manage files independently from start to finish, with particular expertise in recovery, insolvency, and collections matters.
- Manage caseload of commercial litigation files with a concentration on recovery, collections, and enforcement.
- Advise and represent clients in matters involving debt collection, secured and unsecured lending, bankruptcy, insolvency, and creditor remedies.
- Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
- Appear before Ontario courts on motions, applications, and trials.
- Conduct negotiations, mediations, and settlement discussions on behalf of clients.
- Provide strategic legal advice to clients on collection strategies and risk management.
- Collaborate with firm partners, associates, and clerks to ensure efficient and effective case management.
- Stay current on developments in commercial litigation, bankruptcy, and collections law.
- Execute business and organizational development responsibilities for the firm.
- Additional law practice responsibilities as required.
Education: LLB or JD degree from a recognized law school.
Professional Credentials: Licensed L1 member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Work Experience:
5–8 years of law practice experience in commercial litigation, with a focus on recovery and collections preferred.

Technical and Language Skills Requirements:
- Proficiency with legal case management, legal billings, legal research, and legal documents management applications.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to speak a second language an asset.

- Demonstrated experience in bankruptcy, insolvency, enforcement, or creditor remedies.
- Strong oral and written advocacy skills.
- Ability to manage files independently and work efficiently under deadlines.
- Excellent client management, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines.
- Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
- Strong relationship management skills including client and vendor relations management, business networking, negotiation, change management and consulting/advisory skills.
- Demonstrated successful experience of prioritizing work, making decisions and communicating with others within a values framework of respect, equity, anti‑racism, diversity and inclusivity.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
- Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
- Ability to promptly provide minimum of 2 qualified employment references upon request who are available to speak with either Marberg or Marberg's client.
- Ability to declare personal Non‑Conflict of Interest in execution of position responsibilities.
- Additional satisfactory Background Checks, Technical Skills Evaluations, and Employment References as required.
