We’re looking for our next Associate Counsel
The purpose of the Associate Counsel is to provide comprehensive legal support for Questrade Financial Group’s growing businesses, enabling the company to achieve its strategic objectives while minimizing legal risk and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. As Associate Counsel at QFG, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our diverse and expanding business lines. You will handle a broad range of legal matters, gaining valuable experience in areas such as contract negotiation and drafting, regulatory compliance, marketing and advertising law, corporate governance, and litigation support.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your legal expertise within a fast‑paced and innovative financial services company, while directly contributing to QFG’s continued growth and success.

This role will be a 12‑ to 16‑month contract position.

Responsibilities

Review contracts, including negotiation and drafting

Review marketing collateral and communications

Board reporting and governance activities

Estate matters

Litigation support

Forms reviews and updates

Developing and maintaining policies and procedures

Making regulatory or legal filings/applications

Handling operational issues, complaints, escalations to the Legal department

Providing legal opinions or advice on various matters

Supporting M&A and integration activities

Advocating or negotiating on behalf of QFG

Ensuring advice provided is joined up, meets the business needs and is sustainable

Fulfil requests for interpretation or guidance and provide clear actionable recommendations supported by research and analysis for subject matter referred to the Legal department

Work cooperatively with multiple departments

Take ownership of treating and completing all tasks as assigned or taken on

Exhibit the highest level of ethics, accountability and professionalism in all aspects of the job

Qualifications

Hold a J.D. or LL.B., and be licensed to practice law in Canada

Have at least 2 years of relevant post‑call experience

Excellent communication, client relationship, and drafting skills

Ability to manage multiple competing tasks in a high‑pressure environment

Sound legal and business judgment to provide practical solutions to complex issues
