Insurance Defence Associate Attorney (3–8 Years Experience)

Location: Ottawa, ON
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Toronto office as home base with flexibility)

The Opportunity

This opportunity is ideal for an insurance defence associate attorney seeking a stable, well-managed litigation platform with consistent workflow and meaningful responsibility. The firm offers hands-on advocacy, direct insurer interaction, and a supportive environment that encourages professional growth without unnecessary micromanagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Defend a broad range of insurance defence matters from intake through resolution

• Handle general liability, premises liability, automobile liability, and related defense files

• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery materials, and dispositive briefs

• Take and defend examinations for discovery and participate in mediations, motions, and hearings

• Assist with trial preparation and litigation strategy

• Communicate directly with insurers, adjusters, and insured clients

• Manage an active litigation docket with increasing independence

Requirements

• 3–8 years of insurance defence litigation experience

• Strong experience before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice

• Excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills

• Ability to independently manage files while collaborating with senior counsel

• Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario

Compensation & Benefits

• $145,000–$185,000 CAD base salary (DOE)

• Open to higher compensation for the right experience
