POSITION SUMMARYReporting to the Tool Room Supervisor, the QMC Technician is responsible for performing product changes on need basis, attending to mold issues during production, preparing molds for upcoming mold changes, performing work as defined by the mold PM program and preparing molds for storage after removal from machine. Prepare molds for upcoming changes. Perform work assigned by tool room supervisor and as defined by the mold PM program.
Troubleshoot molds and start up machines after repair is completed.
· Assist with installing and removing mold during product change
- Pre-Stage all equipment and necessary tools for mold installation and removal
- Obtain necessary supplies from stores
· Assist with preparing for storage and installation
- Store the mold in the proper location
- Inspect, clean, polish the mold prior to installation and storage
· Assist with repairing and improving molds during production
- Block and unblock cavities when the need arises
- Perform insert change or repairs, clean cores and gate inserts, fix leaking inserts
· Assist with performing routine preventative maintenance
- o Replace mold inserts, nozzle tips,
- o Check lubrication points
- o Setting and checking mold alignment
· Assist with completing documentation
- oReport out daily activities and update Tool Room labour board file.
- o Report out daily activities and update Tooling logbook file.
- o Mold Inspection checklist sheet
- · Ensure Health & Safety / HACCP & SQF / 5S Compliance, including proactively identify and suggesting ways to eliminate hazards and participating in safety investigation when required
- · Provide feedback and drive improvement regarding technical processes on the shop floor working with tool room supervisor and other mold techs
Trouble shoot product change process to produce quality parts at standard cycle times and obtain QC part approval - Prepare and improve molds in bench and/or in machine by performing insert change and repairs – related to heat, air, water, hydraulic and alignment
- · Always comply with plant safety and HACCP, using appropriate PPE while performing various duties
- · Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Community college certificate/diploma from injection molding training institutes required.
- 5 years tooling and process experience in molding facility
- Mechanical skills; basic electrical skills.
- Flexibility to work overtime, other shifts and during long weekends based on department requirements.
- Operate overhead crane for mold transportation. Certification required.
- Operate the reach truck to transport mold. Certification required.
Skills:
- Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication skills
- Able to read and understand a core map
- Able to diagnose the problems with core shift.
- Basic mechanical skills
- Elementary understanding of injection molding equipment and molds
- Able to complete simple and complex installations of injection molds in a safe and timely manner.
- The company provides on-the-job training

- Mechanically inclined with a positive can-do attitude
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Strong work ethic with the ability to adapt and work effectively within a variety of situations and with various individuals and groups
