Job DescriptionThe Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health‑care professional accountable for providing quality, patient‑focused nursing care to paediatric and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) patients as part of a flex nurse model. The RN will practice according to Osler's nursing practice expectations, the College of Nurses of Ontario standards and the legislative requirements of the Regulated Health Professions Act.
Accountabilities- Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
- Compliance with policies and procedures associated with observations.
- Professional, patient‑centred care to ensure safety and physiological and psychological well‑being, creating a therapeutic relationship and environment.
- Providing compassionate care within a diverse cultural environment.
- Practising according to infection control and prevention measures.
- Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient’s health status and consulting appropriately using transfer of accountability principles.
- Providing health teaching to patients and families, including thorough discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care in the community.
- Experience with in the last five years with a minimum of two years in the NICU and paediatrics, or a minimum clinical placement in NICU/special care nursery and paediatrics within the last two years.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certificate.
- Completion of Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario breastfeeding e‑learning online course.
- Neonatal Intensive Care course completion preferred.
- Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab work and Emotional Support course completion preferred.
- Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Sound knowledge of the nursing process, theory and responsibilities to the nursing profession.
- BCLS required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem‑solving, conflict‑resolution and decision‑making skills.
- Collaboration skills as a member of an inter‑professional team.
- Patient and family‑centred care knowledge.
- Experience with patient and family health teaching.
- Leadership and facilitation skills.
- Customer service, organisational and critical‑thinking skills.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to work in a stressful, fast‑paced environment.
- Exemplary clinical practice within an inter‑professional team.
- Ability to prioritise patient care needs and make autonomous decisions.
- Excellent physical assessment skills.

- May be required to travel and work between all Osler sites.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record.
- Knowledge of information systems and technology.
Hours:
Currently days/nights, 12‑hour shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements).
Salary:
Minimum $40.24 per hour;
Maximum $57.68 per hour.
Employment type:
Part‑time.
