• Treatment for thalassemia/sickle cell anemia
• Infusion therapy (medications & blood transfusions)
• Minor medical procedures (e.g., paracentesis, liver biopsy, muscle biopsy, therapeutic phlebotomy)
• Wound dressing
• Assisting physicians with procedures

• Apply nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision‑making to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care aligned with the UHN Professional Practice Model.
• Ensure practice complies with professional standards and ethical framework (College of Nurses of Ontario, UHN policy and procedure).

• Completed a university, college or approved nursing program.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Level II:
  Basic Rescuer certification.
• Current certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Physical Health Assessment Course.
• Completion of the ECG interpretation course is an asset.
• Two years of recent Medical and Surgical Nursing experience.
• Experience with phlebotomy, IV insertion, vascular access lines and administration of blood products.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, good judgement and multitask.
• Team player with excellent independent decision‑making, problem‑solving, organizational and time‑management skills.
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Patient teaching skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, under pressure, in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to utilize information technology.
• Capable of meeting the physical demands of the job.
• B.Sc.N. preferred.
• PACU/OR experience preferred.
• Ability to perform paracentesis.
