As a member of Security Operations, the principal responsibilities of the Security Officer include providing continuous internal and external random patrol of hospital property, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and procedures, contributing to and facilitating a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors in support of University Health Network’s mission, goals, and vision, and maintaining compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations.
Duties- Patrol, monitor and secure hospital property.
- Protect patients, staff and visitors.
- Provide a safe environment supporting the Mission Statement, goals and vision of the Hospital and investigate all forms of property loss, theft and damage.
- Respond to emergency codes and calls for assistance per established departmental and hospital policy, enforcing parking regulations to maintain order.
- Perform cross‑functional duties as assigned and/or requested.
- Completion of Grade XII or recognized equivalent.
- Completion of a Law Enforcement/Law Security diploma from a recognized institution or equivalent.
- Current and valid Security License in accordance with the Private Security and Investigative Services Act of Ontario.
- Demonstrated computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Ability to work shifts on short notice and as needed.
- Minimum five (5) years of recent security experience.
- Strong problem recognition and proactive resolution skills, including negotiation.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial statutes.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
- Excellent judgment and diplomacy in emergency situations.
- Completion of a Crisis Intervention certificate (preferred).
- Certification in Legal Awareness and Use of Force, Tactical Communications (preferred).
- Completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program (preferred).
