We are seeking a senior backend software engineer with experience building scalable and robust systems to join our team. As part of a cross-functional team of exceptional engineers and product managers, you will develop new features and provide best‑in‑class support to help our partners scale their businesses.

Tech Stack

Our backend systems are written in Scala, and we use a suite of GCP services with extensive use of GKE, Pub/Sub, Big Query, and Spanner.

Containerized microservices architecture with over 200+ services running primarily in Google Cloud Kubernetes.

We are heavily data‑driven, making extensive use of tools like Amplitude, Big Query, and Datadog.

What Would Your Day‑to‑Day Look Like

Design, build and review code for our fraud and abuse backend platform.

Iterate on features using Scala (no prior experience required) and technologies within GCP.

Ship your first code in days, iterating on features in an agile manner.

Operate autonomously but work closely with engineers and PMs to ensure high alignment.

Collaborate cross‑functionally with the product team and other Hopper teams.

We operate with few meetings and emphasize strong alignment and asynchronous decision making.

An Ideal Candidate Has

4+ years of experience building scalable backend systems.

A strong understanding of distributed systems and how architectural decisions affect performance and maintainability.

The ability to work with minimal guidance, be proactive and handle uncertainty, ambiguity and the challenge of quickly evolving goals.

Excelled in cross‑functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Frontend Engineers, and other highly skilled specialists.

Prior experience in the payments and fraud space a plus.
