THE POSITION  Join us as a Senior Backend Engineer and help power the technology behind Maple’s virtual care platform. This role is an opportunity to work within a cross-functional squad of engineers, product managers, and designers, solving real user problems and shipping features that improve healthcare access for millions of Canadians.
As a Senior Engineer, you’ll own problems end-to-end from understanding the user need, to designing and implementing backend services, to reviewing and refining solutions with your squad. You’ll bring strong Laravel expertise to a team that values clean architecture, scalability, and maintainability. You’ll be a builder and thought partner — leading projects that enhance our system performance, pushing for better engineering practices, and mentoring others to raise the bar.

YOUR IMPACT    Own end-to-end problems within your squad,  from understanding user needs to delivering backend services that are reliable, scalable, and secure.
Shape our core platform , leading projects that improve system architecture, observability, and performance to support Maple’s growth.
Bring deep Laravel expertise , ensuring we continue to deliver clean, maintainable code while evolving a modular, service-oriented backend.
Raise the bar by mentoring teammates , contributing to shared practices, develop cutting-edge AI implementations, and fostering a culture of ownership and pride in work.
Collaborate cross-functionally  with product managers and designers, ensuring technical decisions align with real-world user problems and business goals.
Champion quality and simplicity  in every stage of development, from design reviews to code reviews, pushing for solutions that are thoughtful, durable, and scalable.
3 – 18 MONTH DELIVERABLES  In your first 3 months you’ll build strong context on our platform and product. You’ll dive into our Laravel codebase, ship your first features, and get hands-on with the systems that power virtual care  pairing with your squad, you’ll establish relationships across engineering, product, and design while contributing to squad rituals and reviews.
By 12–18 months you’ll be the owner of significant backend components, trusted to lead projects end-to-end. You’ll have improved system resilience and scalability, influenced how we approach architecture decisions, and helped raise the engineering bar across the team. Through mentorship and code leadership, you’ll have contributed to a culture that values quality, simplicity, and thoughtful product impact.
CANDIDATE PROFILE    Hands-on backend expertise in PHP and Laravel  — you’ve designed and shipped production-grade Laravel services or APIs that support real users erience with complex systems  — you’ve built or maintained distributed systems, microservices, or modular monoliths, and you can talk about trade-offs in architecture.
