The Mongo
DB Replication Team builds infrastructure to support fault tolerance, high availability, and tunable consistency. Distributed systems is a core focus of Mongo
DB, and the projects delivered by the Replication Team are highly visible, typically among the flagship features for each major Mongo
DB release. We’re currently working on improving our API and interface boundaries so that we can meet the performance and correctness needs of the world’s most demanding enterprises while enabling new, more efficient data storage and retrieval patterns.

This role can be based out of our NYC headquarters, office hub locations, or remotely in the United States and Canada
Candidate Profile
Minimum 5 years of experience in programming, debugging, and performance tuning distributed and/or highly concurrent C/C++ software systems. Candidates with more experience will be considered for more senior roles. Experience in C++ is preferable but not requiredStrong systems fundamentals, including multi-threaded programming and performance profilingFamiliarity with distributed systems such as consensus protocols, data replication, distributed transactions, and fault toleranceFamiliarity with database internals or building core components for data processing systemsExcellent verbal and written technical communication skills and a desire to collaborate with colleagues and mentor junior engineers and internsExcellent time management skills and the ability to make realistic assessments of project complexityPassion for learning new things in the domains of computer science and software engineeringResponsibilities
Develop novel data replication solutions based on the Raft consensus protocol for ensuring automatic failover and zero-downtime of user applicationsHandle distributed systems related customer escalations from Technical Support teamWrite production-ready database code in C++Write unit tests and integration tests in C++, Javascript, and Python to demonstrate application correctnessDiagnose test failures, identify bugs in existing code, and fix themInvestigate the performance impact of code changes that may cause software performance regressionsInterview candidates for software engineering positionsHandle customer escalationsCollaborate with stakeholders and engineering teams across the company to jointly work on large initiativesSuccess Measures
In the first month, you will have understood the high level architecture of Mongo
DB replication and fixed a few bugsIn three months, you will have contributed to the development in C++ of a project slated for the next major release of Mongo
DB, and diagnosed and fixed a few customer or testing-reported issuesIn six months, you will have taken on code review responsibilities and are involved in reviewing the design for new featuresIn twelve months, you will be leading the development of a new feature and helping to mentor new engineers on the teamAbout MongoDB
