Air Canada operates a total of seven fleet types, ranging from the Airbus A‑220 to the Boeing 777, providing unparalleled opportunities for pilots to fly state‑of‑the‑art aircraft.

Air Canada provides pilots with exciting career progression. Based on the most recent information, the time to upgrade to a narrow‑body Captain is 3‑5 years, with an average salary of $255,000 to $291,000 plus expenses. Upgrading to a wide‑body Captain typically takes 11‑15 years, with an average salary between $315,000 and $397,000 plus expenses. Additional benefits include a pension plan and an annual incentive plan.

Air Canada pilots will be assigned to operate out of one of four crew bases:
Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, or Vancouver, and typically begin their career as a First Officer on domestic aircraft or as a Relief Pilot on long‑range, international flights.

Qualifications
  • 2000 hours of fixed‑wing flying time
  • Ability to pass Air Canada and Transport Canada medical and visual acuity requirements for a Category 1 medical certificate
  • Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), current Group 1 (Multi‑engine) Instrument Rating
  • Canadian passport or landed immigrant status
  • Ability to hold a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and travel without restriction across the Air Canada network (any required work permits/visas are the applicant’s responsibility)
Desirable additional qualifications
  • Graduates of a three‑ or four‑year diploma/degree program from a college or university
  • Aviation college degree or diploma
  • Commercial or military flight experience
  • Jet and/or turbo‑prop multi‑crew experience
