Position: Transportation Coordinator / Dispatcher

Overview

Reporting to the Transportation Manager, this position is responsible for the dispatching of various loads, including line-haul and DSD, including communication with drivers, customers, DC’s, plants, and external suppliers. You will work with a mix of 20+ carriers and Independent Contractors, hauling both internal and carrier assets.

Shift
: 9:30pm - 6:00am (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) and 9:30pm - 5:30am (Fridays)

Responsibilities
  • Coordination of the movements of finished goods and materials between plants, DC’s, depots, and 3PLs, nationally.
  • Prompt dispatch and monitoring of drivers; proactively addressing and communicating to key stakeholders any issue affecting deliveries.
  • Update various files and systems including TMS (E2

    Open), ELM.
  • Generating transportation documents & distributing to respective transport drivers.
  • Address & resolve trailer mechanical issues as needed, working with on-site or on-call mechanic for timely repairs.
  • Collaboration with the Distribution Team for shunt movements, load ready times, daily priorities, etc.
  • Assist with the compliance of trailer preventative maintenance (PM) and annual safety programs.
  • Flag and resolve GPS trailer issues as needed.
  • Conduct daily trailer yard checks to reconcile trailers in yard & maintain shared trailer yard board with the Distribution Center Team.
  • Monitoring & responding to emails in a prompt & timely manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring all trailers are dispatched for respective shift.
  • Escalation to leadership for any transportation related issues such as delays, breakdowns, etc.
  • Supporting supply chain team for inventory management of equipment; ex. bread handling trays.
  • Conduct shift handovers within the transportation team.
  • When required, support with line haul and delivery planning.
  • Back Up:
    Other Transportation Coordinators on the team.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in logistics coordination and dispatching, in a fast‑paced transportation environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with Transportation Management System (TMS) is an asset (i.e., E2

    OpenTMS).
  • Must be able to work under pressure with tight deadlines with competing priorities, making decisions on the spot.
  • Work independently with the confidence to action transportation logistical needs.
  • Sense of urgency working in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Professional phone etiquette and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Punctuality and flexible to work all shifts, including days, nights, weekends and weekdays. Vacation coverage.
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency (Word, Outlook, & Excel).
