Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Interstate Operations Coordinator to join our logistics team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of interstate freight movements — from sourcing qualified carriers and negotiating rates to ensuring on-time pickup, delivery, and customer satisfaction.
This role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills, as well as experience using DAT Load Board and other freight-matching platforms.
Responsibilities
Carrier Procurement & Negotiation:
- Source, vet, and secure qualified carriers for interstate shipments using DAT and other industry tools.
- Negotiate competitive rates while maintaining company profitability.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with carrier partners.
Load Management:
- Book and dispatch loads, ensuring accurate and timely communication of all shipment details.
- Monitor shipments from pickup through delivery, proactively addressing any issues, delays, or service failures.
- Coordinate with customers, dispatchers, and drivers to ensure all documentation (BOL, POD, rate confirmations, etc.) is complete and compliant.
Problem Resolution:
- Handle in-transit issues, schedule changes, or accessorial requests efficiently and professionally.
- Communicate updates promptly to customers and internal teams.
System & Data Management:
- Utilize TMS and DAT systems to post loads, track carrier performance, and update shipment statuses.
- Maintain accurate load records and ensure all data is entered correctly for billing and audit purposes.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years in freight brokerage, carrier sales, or operations (interstate experience preferred).
- Proficient with DAT, TMS systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook).
- Understanding of U.S. and Canadian interstate transportation, equipment types, and freight documentation.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Customer-first mindset with problem-solving initiative.
Preferred Attributes
- Previous experience in a fast-paced logistics or 3PL environment.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements (insurance, carrier vetting, safety ratings).
- Team player with strong work ethic and accountability.
