Experienced Physiotherapist - Urgent and Emergency Care Job Summary
We are seeking an HCPC‑registered Physiotherapist with experience in frailty, rehabilitation and elderly care to join our admission avoidance therapy team at Torbay Hospital. The role will be based in the urgent and emergency care department, covering the emergency department, acute medical unit and late‑shift and weekend services.
Main Duties- Provide physiotherapy assessments, interventions and discharge planning for older patients in acute and emergency care settings.
- Lead and support junior physiotherapists, assistants and students within multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide expert respiratory and MSK care tailored to frail older patients.
- Play a key role in discharge planning and rehabilitation strategies, contributing to an integrated 7‑day service that improves outcomes.
- Participate in service development, audits, research and quality‑improvement initiatives.
- Complete accurate documentation and timely data entry in accordance with national and local policies.
- Manage physiotherapy equipment and collaborate with external agencies.
- Utilise advanced therapeutic skills and communicate effectively with patients, carers and team members.
- Essential:
- HCPC registration as a Physiotherapist
- Professional physiotherapy degree
- Recent experience within an NHS setting (Band 5 or
6) - Experience working with older people, including respiratory care and complex discharge planning with mental‑capacity assessment
- Experience supervising students and junior staff
- Strong knowledge of frailty assessment and management in an acute environment
- Desirable:
- Post‑graduate training in frailty
- Experience in improvement and innovation projects
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment
- Experience of using strength‑based, person‑centred approaches
- Band:
Band 6 - Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per year
