Apprentice Sterile Services Technician
Job Summary
We are recruiting an Apprentice Sterile Services Technician to join our Hospital Sterile Department Unit (HSDU) on a fixed‑term 18‑month apprenticeship contract. Under supervision you will assist team members with decontamination duties covering the complete re‑processing of medical devices – receipt, wash, assembly, pack, sterilisation, delivery and tracking & tracing – in accordance with policies and procedures. The role supports both internal and external customers and is crucial to delivering a safe product for direct patient care.
WorkingHours
The apprenticeship includes a four‑week rotating rota: 0800–1600, 1000–1800, 1500–2300, 1600–2400. There is an obligation to work one weekend in four, with days off in lieu.
Main Duties- Assist team members with decontamination tasks across all stages of medical device re‑processing.
- Work as part of a team, liaising with apprentices, technicians, supervisors and managers.
- Receive training instruction and advice from mentor/line manager and maintain professional working relationships that reflect a service‑oriented department and Trust values.
- Refer appropriate issues and raise uncertainties with senior staff.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills when dealing with customers from other departments, community services, other agencies, and the public and patients.
- Good standard of education.
- GCSE in English and Maths minimum C grade or equivalent.
- Organisational skills.
- IT skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time.
- Ability to prioritise own workloads.
- Experience in a healthcare setting.
