About the RoleWe are currently recruiting On-Call Firefighters at Truro Community Fire Station. This rewarding role offers the flexibility of part‑time hours while serving the community.
Job OverviewOn-Call Firefighters maintain everyday lives and jobs until they are summoned. Once called, they become professional Firefighters, ready to respond to a range of operational incidents. Their duties include fire and road safety prevention, education, safeguarding, and emergency response.
Contracted Weekly Average Hours- 45 hours: 31–60
- 75 hours: 61–90
- 105 hours: 91–119
- 120+ hours: 120

You Must / What You’ll Need to Succeed- Be available to respond to or live/work no more than five minutes from your nearest station
- Be at least 18 years old at the start of employment (you can apply earlier); no maximum age limit
- Have no unspent criminal convictions at the time you start employment (unspent convictions at the time of application can be discussed at first contact)
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Be able to drive at the start of employment (you can apply before you have a licence)
- Have good eyesight meeting visual standards
- Have a good level of strength and fitness – you must be able to reach level 8.8 on the bleep test
- Have a good grasp of Maths and English (you may need to undertake NFCC written tests; formal qualifications are not required)
This position will be subject to a standard criminal record disclosure check.
