Description

Cornwall Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Social Worker to join the Family Assessment and Support Team covering the Falmouth and Penryn area. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality assessment and safeguarding work, supporting children and families to achieve improved outcomes through robust practice and meaningful intervention.

This role is ideal for a practitioner with strong assessment experience, safeguarding knowledge, and confidence in managing statutory responsibilities within a dynamic and supportive team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Complete high-quality social work assessments, including Child in Need (CIN) plans and progressing cases to ICPC where necessary.
  • Undertake joint investigations, including s.47 enquiries, child protection investigations, and associated reports.
  • Carry out statutory CP and CIC visits, producing clear, evidence-based reports for reviews and planning meetings.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with children and families, supporting change through direct work.
  • Chair meetings such as Child in Need reviews, Core Groups, and multi-agency discussions.
  • Undertake home visits and direct work with children aged 0-18.
  • Contribute to duty work on a rota basis.
  • Complete court-directed assessments, including viability assessments, and coordinate all aspects of court work.
  • Engage fully in reflective supervision and team discussions.
Requirements
  • Is registered with Social Work England and holds a recognised Social Work qualification.
  • Has proven experience within an Assessment Team or similar frontline statutory service.
  • Understands and can deliver robust safeguarding, court work, and multi‑agency practice.
  • Ideally has ABE training and experience of joint investigations (desirable but not essential).
  • Can drive and has access to transport (pool cars available to book).
