The Role

This role is an exciting opportunity to grow your fire protection design career by working hands-on with real projects while learning directly from experienced engineers. You’ll apply industry-standard tools and design practices across fire sprinkler, standpipe, and fire alarm systems, collaborate with project teams and public agencies, and contribute meaningful technical work that supports both project success and client relationships. • Assume a limited degree of judgment on work details and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of design alternatives.
  • Using prescribed methods, perform specific and limited portions of an experienced engineer’s broader assignment.
  • Produce construction documents in Revit and AutoCAD for fire sprinkler, standpipe, fire pump, fire alarm, and life safety systems.
  • Perform fire protection design calculations (hydraulic calculations, water supply analysis, sprinkler hazard classifications, device layouts, etc.), sketches, technical comparisons, and similar technical work as required by assignment under direct supervision of the project engineer.
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow operations through a series of related and detailed steps or processes.
  • Research code issues (including NFPA standards and the International Fire Code) and work with city, state, county, and fire marshal officials.
  • Coordinate fire protection layouts with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines using BIM tools.
  • Research design options and document findings for project engineers and/or project managers.
  • Take an active role in new business development by performing quality production work to build strong relationships with existing clients.
