We are hiring a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to our Information Systems (IS) team. This role is an opportunity for an automation‑first senior technologist with a passion for Linux to build a career with Canonical and drive success with those leveraging Ubuntu and open‑source products.
Job SummaryThe IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all IT production services. We run services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users.
As a Senior SRE & Gitops engineer you will drive operations automation at the next level in both private and public clouds, using open‑source IaC and CI/CD pipelines to support Canonical’s products.
Responsibilities- Drive automation and Git Ops as embedded tech lead.
- Collaborate with the IS architect to align solutions with the architecture vision.
- Design and architect services as products for the organization.
- Develop IaC best practices and increase automation.
- Automate software operations across private and public clouds.
- Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
- Use observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch) to set up monitoring and alerting.
- Assist globally distributed engineering,, and support peers.
- Receive uninterrupted development time for large projects.
- Mentor others through design sessions and knowledge sharing.
- Carry final responsibility for time‑critical escalations.
- Experience with IaC and cloud infrastructure automation.
- Python software development experience.
- Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration.
- Linux networking, routing, firewall knowledge.
- Experience with Ceph, databases, and Linux storage.
- Hands‑on enterprise Linux server administration.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Problem‑solving ability from kernel to web.
- Ability to work in distributed teams.
- Passion for open source, especially Ubuntu/Debian.
