An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our expanding team as an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Consultant. We are increasing our existing team from six to eight Consultants to meet the ever‑changing needs of the service.

The current team consists of six ENT Consultants, four Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Consultants, one visiting Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, one full‑time and one part‑time Consultant Orthodontist, forming the Head and Neck Directorate.

This is a full‑time permanent position. You will work within a strong multidisciplinary team that supports each other and our patients to deliver the best possible care.

ENT services are part of the Head & Neck Directorate within Surgical Services, which are part of Acute Services. Adult and paediatric emergency and elective ENT services are provided to the Ayrshire & Arran catchment population of 375,000 residents.

The successful applicant will have an interest in general adult and paediatric ENT and will work with a team of established surgeons, including Head and Neck Cancer Surgeons and Cochlear Implant surgeons. The department hosts the National Cochlear Implant Service.

The main base for this post is University Hospital Crosshouse where ENT in‑patient and day‑case services are located. Outpatient clinics are provided at University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr, including specialist clinics such as the middle ear implant clinic, neck lump and head and neck oncology clinics, cochlear clinic and balance clinic.

The post holder will participate on the consultant on‑call rota (currently 1:6 with prospective cover, expected to reduce to 1:8). On‑call duties are supported by a fully populated middle grade tier.

• Provide assessment, surgery and follow‑up for adult and paediatric ENT patients
• Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) working where appropriate
• Participate in service development, clinical audit and research

Ayrshire offers spectacular countryside and coastline to explore, world‑renowned golfing, and is within easy reach of the vibrant city of Glasgow and the leafy suburbs of the south side, all with excellent schooling.

Terms and Conditions of service are those determined by the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 and sessions are offered on a 10 PA basis. Applications from individuals who may wish to work fewer programmed activities are welcomed.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration and be on the GMC Specialist List in ENT (having undergone higher specialist training), or be able to demonstrate equivalent training and experience.
