Lead Electrical Design and Drive Project Success

A well-established building services contractor in South Wales is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their expanding team. This hands‑on role is ideal for an experienced engineer ready to lead electrical design and coordinate installations across commercial, residential, education, and healthcare projects. You will work closely with project managers, site teams, and clients to ensure smooth delivery from design through to commissioning while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical excellence.

• Lead electrical design development for contractor‑led projects, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and security systems
• Prepare and review technical drawings, design calculations, and installation specifications to support site teams
• Liaise directly with site engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to resolve design and installation issues on site
• Ensure compliance with BS 7671, UK building regulations, health & safety, and CDM requirements
• Manage project timelines and communicate progress effectively with clients and internal teams
• Support tendering and value engineering exercises with technical input
• Mentor junior electrical engineers and provide technical guidance
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery and resolve clashes
• Conduct site visits to verify design implementation and troubleshoot issues

• Degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (CIBSE, IET, or equivalent)
• 5+ years’ experience in electrical design within a building services contracting environment or contractor‑focused consultancy
• Practical understanding of electrical installation processes and site coordination
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (Amtech, Dialux, or similar)
• Strong knowledge of BS 7671, UK building regulations, and CDM regulations
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Proactive problem solver with a hands‑on, collaborative approach
