Civil & Building Works Engineer
Chemring Energetics UK is a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence and key commercial customers. This role is based at the Ardeer site in Stevenston, Scotland, United Kingdom.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure all activities are carried out in full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and procedures; proactively report unsafe acts or conditions via the Near Miss system.
- Monitor, maintain, and update site civil, structural, and building engineering construction standards.
- Identify materials, resources, and expertise required to deliver civil, structural, and building requirements for capital expenditure projects in line with legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare design and specification documents for competitive tendering to contractors.
- Develop and submit capital expenditure proposals for CEUK Director and Group approval.
- Plan, manage, and oversee on‑site contractor works, ensuring projects are completed safely, to high quality standards, and within planned timescales and budget.
- Oversee site maintenance activities for civil and building works, ensuring completion to acceptable standards.
- Conduct annual inspections and prepare reports for all site buildings; raise repairs in the maintenance Agility system and track progress.
- Fulfil client duties for CEUK in compliance with the Construction, Design & Management Regulations 2015.
- Manage asbestos‑containing materials (ACMs) on site in compliance with current asbestos legislation.
- HND in Civil Engineering or relevant experience.
- HNC in Construction or relevant experience.
- Experience in civil, structural and building construction.
- Strong knowledge of Scottish Building Regulations & Standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- IT skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Construction, Design & Management Regulations.
- Project management experience.
- Strong contractor management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
- Good decision‑making ability and ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Self‑motivated with experience in an explosive manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of impact and blast effects on buildings.
- Experience in risk assessment and method statement preparation.
- Knowledge of permit‑to‑work systems.
- Demonstrates a personal commitment to Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
- Has a strong bias for action, spotting potential issues early and coordinating effective resolutions.
- Seeks out and implements new ideas and opportunities that deliver real business benefits.
- Builds and nurtures effective relationships to improve performance.
