Position: Chemical Engineer (Contract)
Location: Monkswood

Chemical Engineer

• Research, design, and develop new production processes.

• Plan, design, and execute lab experiments and pilot trials including safety paperwork (including COSHH, SOP and proficient at handling hazardous chemicals).

• Process, analyse, and interpret trial data to draw conclusions for further development.

• Ability to problem solve, adapt, and pivot through the technical challenges of R&D.

• Write technical reports to summarise lab/pilot data to facilitate development of scale up/commissioning.

• Support the development and implementation of novel production processes, ensuring they are robust, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements.

• Assist with process scale-up from laboratory to production.

• Develop and ensure accuracy of detailed calculations, process engineering datasheets, and drawings.

• Contribute to process engineering designs, including: process flow diagrams, detailed heat and mass balances, process descriptions, equipment specifications and data sheets, P&t, pressure relief calculations, and process safety reviews.

• Assist in the creation of technical specifications and requirements for process equipment.

• Participate in process hazard assessments and other technical risk assessments (e.g. HAZOP, LOPA, and Hazardous Area Classification).

The role holder is responsible for taking reasonable care of their own health and safety ensuring high standards for safety, health and environment (SHE) in our organisation are maintained. This includes co-operating and following all reasonable instruction, information and training reporting work-related hazards or incidents and using all equipment for the purpose intended. More detailed responsibilities are captured within the Company Health & Safety Policy (759/OF/016) and the Company Environmental Policy (759/OF/029).

Skills

• Experience and competent at handling hazardous chemicals and operating in safe conditions.

• Experience in chemical process design through the entire project lifecycle.

• Experienced with concept, basic, and detailed design of a chemical plant.

• Experience of process hazard assessments and other technical risk assessments (including HAZOP, LOPA, and Hazardous Area Classification).

• Self-motivated with good planning and organizational skills.

• Good verbal and written communications skills
