As a Practice Nurse working within our Primary Health Care team at Barbary Combined Practice, this post is predominantly based at Lyneham with expectation to travel to Shrivenham medical centre as and when required. The post offers part‑time hours (15 hrs per week).

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing appropriate Primary Health Care (PHC) nursing to the medical facility population at risk in conjunction with the multidisciplinary primary healthcare team.

You will be responsible for the delivery of appropriate assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care needs, medical screening and advice to patients within your professional competence in line with current policy, guidelines and evidence‑based practice.

Person Specification Registrations and Memberships
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse on sub‑Part 1 (RN1/RN(A)) of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Must be in date for Basic Life Support (BLS) Anaphylaxis, Automated External Defibrillation (AED), Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Safeguarding Level 3 (Children and Adult) or willingness to undertake training
  • Proficient in relevant Information Technology (IT) systems subject to appropriate training being provided
  • Willingness to undertake specific training to fulfil competency for the role (e.g., audiometry, ear care, minor illness/injury, physical assessment, history taking, travel health, DPHC/MOD training as appropriate)
  • Minimum of 1‑year post‑registration experience

Job responsibilities
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary primary healthcare team (MDT) delivering primary healthcare nursing including elements of occupational health.
  • Work with the Senior Practice Nurse or Senior Medical Officer within the medical facility (MF).
  • Depending upon qualifications and experience, deliver appropriate assessment, treatment, screening and advice to patients within your professional competence and in accordance with Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Provide high‑quality person‑centred care which always considers peoples safety, privacy and dignity using advanced clinical knowledge that is evidence‑based.
  • Monitor and improve standards through supervision, evidence‑based practice, clinical audit, research and education.
  • Act as a role model, delivering high quality practice and promoting clinical effectiveness in care.
  • Hold training and clinical supervision responsibilities for Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) and Military Medics.
  • Work within the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to all NMC standards and Ministry of Defence (MOD)/DPHC policies and guidelines.
