Senior Civil Engineer - Mining Infrastructure

Our client, a leading engineering services provider to the mining sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Engineer for their operations in Upington, Northern Cape . This role is pivotal for the design, development, and management of civil infrastructure critical to mining operations, including access roads, plant sites, tailings dams, and water management systems. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of the mining environment, coupled with strong project management skills.

You will be responsible for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance of all civil works. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to significant mining projects in the Northern Cape and lead a team of dedicated engineers and technicians.

• Lead the design and development of mining-related civil infrastructure, such as haul roads, plant foundations, and earthworks.
• Oversee the design and construction of tailings storage facilities, including embankment and liner systems.
• Develop and implement water management plans and infrastructure for mining operations.
• Conduct geotechnical investigations and analyses relevant to mining structures.
• Prepare detailed engineering designs, specifications, construction drawings, and contract documents.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of civil works.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, environmental standards, and mining industry best practices.
• Liaise with mine operations personnel, clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
• Provide technical mentorship and leadership to junior engineering staff.

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• A Master's degree with a focus on Geotechnical or Mining Engineering is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with at least 5 years focused on mining infrastructure projects.
• Professional registration as a Pr. Eng with ECSA is mandatory.
• Proven experience in the design of earthworks, tailings dams, and mining-related structures.
• Proficiency in relevant civil engineering design and modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Civil Designer, geotechnical software).
• Strong understanding of mining processes, operational constraints, and environmental management in the mining sector.
• Excellent project management, leadership, and communication skills.
• Willingness to work on-site in the Upington, Northern Cape region and potentially travel to various mine locations.
