Responsibilities / Position overview

We are seeking a strategic, technically grounded data leader to shape and scale our data foundations as we continue to normalize as well as grow. This role goes far beyond operational data management: you will set the vision, architecture, and operating model for how healthcare data are acquired, standardised, engineered, and delivered to stakeholders.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team of data scientists and data engineers to build robust, linked, research‑ready datasets from multiple external healthcare data partners, representing providers of healthcare. You will partner closely with senior internal stakeholders to align on data needs, influence prioritisation, and ensure that our data assets are trusted, compliant, and fit for purpose.

This role is ideal for someone who has moved beyond hands‑on engineering or analytics into data leadership, and who is motivated by building scalable systems, enabling teams, and connecting business strategy with technical execution.

What you’ll do

  • Define and own the data management strategy, ensuring alignment with RWE and enterprise‑wide data priorities.
  • Shape the data architecture and data governance framework, covering ingestion, transformation, quality, lineage, metadata, and access.
  • Translate emerging business needs into data capabilities, infrastructure priorities, and long‑term operational models.
  • Oversee ingestion and transformation of diverse healthcare datasets into linked, analysis‑ready assets.
  • Implement scalable, automated data pipelines and quality frameworks.
  • Ensure rigorous data quality, completeness, and documentation through team‑led checks and reporting in close collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Lead evaluation and integration of new healthcare data sources, including work with external partners.
  • Serve as senior point of contact for internal healthcare optimisation and research teams, ensuring that data delivery meets scientific and operational requirements.
  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure delivery of high‑quality, compliant data services.
  • Coach and develop a high‑performing technical team.
  • Establish best practices for project planning, sprint execution, data documentation, and reproducible research workflows.
  • Implement and oversee GDPR‑compliant data management processes and infrastructure.
  • Advise senior leadership on data risks, dependencies, progress, and investment decisions.
  • Contribute actively to the RWE leadership team, helping shape organisational priorities and resource planning.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned or as specified/agreed in annual objectives.
Qualifications

About you

  • 5+ years in data‑intensive organisations (healthcare, research, or data science driven services).
  • Master’s or PhD in a quantitative or computational field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proficiency with modern analytics and engineering tools (e.g., Python, SQL, Git; cloud environments; R desirable).
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured data at scale.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing GDPR‑compliant data management systems (programmes, policies and processes).
  • Proven experience leading data teams (engineering, analytics, or data management).
  • Track record of building or scaling data functions, not only maintaining them.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong project management capabilities in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
  • Experience managing external data providers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring vendor performance.
  • Positively models our diversity, equity and…
