Fighting money laundering and terrorist financing is a responsibility with tremendous impact on society. Every day, more than 11 million transactions are monitored to detect suspicious behavior. Since criminal patterns evolve constantly, our Transaction Monitoring (TM) solution must adapt just as quickly.
As a Senior Data Scientist / Engineer, you will take the lead in developing, scaling, and improving this mission-critical solution. You combine expertise in data engineering and software development with a strong analytical mindset. You design robust data infrastructures, guide colleagues in best practices, and introduce advanced analytics and machine learning into monitoring models. With your leadership, we can stay one step ahead in the fight against financial crime.
Whatyou will do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable components for large-scale data processing (PySpark).
- Analyze input and output data to identify and resolve issues.
- Anticipate and solve performance and infrastructure challenges with future-proof solutions.
- Test, monitor, and continuously improve the TM system.
- Collaborate with platform teams to bring your code into production environments (Databricks, Azure, Airflow).
- Own large parts of the TM solution’s data and infrastructure: from architecture and high-quality code to mentoring medior and junior colleagues.
- Ensure alignment with IT, Architecture, and Data Science teams to optimize model performance.
- Act as a strategic counterpart for senior management on technical and analytical matters.
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Econometrics, or another STEM field.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or advanced analytics, with strong knowledge of Python and PySpark (Databricks experience is a plus).
- Proven experience in applying software engineering best practices:
Git, release management, unit testing, testing strategies. - Passion for building scalable, efficient, and reliable data solutions.
- Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving mindset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Dutch.
