Black & McDonald’s Western Utilities team is growing! The Project Manager is located in Vancouver and typically reports directly to the Operations Manager or Division Manager.
The successful candidate will plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate assigned project(s) from start to finish and in accordance with the estimate, schedule, specifications and budget. Their primary focus is safety, planning, monitoring progress, scheduling, quality, costs management, estimating, reporting, and managing project change under the direction of senior leadership.
Provide leadership for assigned project in regards to cost, schedule, quality, safety, and contract performancePrepare and submit project estimates and price/negotiate all changes in scope as requiredEstablish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards as per company policy and contract specificationsEstablish and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including Black & McDonald team members, clients, consultants, joint venture partners, trades, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and the community, while keeping them informed of relevant informationPlan, prepare, monitor, and manage construction schedule and milestonesEnsure work is performed in compliance with applicable standards – ie. HSE regulations, company policies and procedures, and contract requirementsMonitor and report on progress, labour productivity, work outcomes, budget, cost, and forecastPrepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and consultantsReview work/contracts/WIP for areas of risk and correct deficienciesEnsure material and equipment are available to tradespersonsEnsure monthly cost forecasting and checklists are completed accurately and on timeEnsure accurate productivity reports are completed weekly.COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

10+ years as an Project Manager in the construction industry with a contractor10+ years working in the utilities and/or civil industryProven experience in estimation, strategic procurement, and negotiationExperience commissioning, integration and applying QA/QC to projectsExperience with Mentoring Junior and Intermediate Project ManagersExperience with medium and high voltage utility work, roadway lighting, traffic signals and substations is considered an assetExperience with P3 and/or design-build projects is considered an assetExperience in WWTP projects is considered an assetEDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Degree or Diploma in one of the following is considered an asset
Red Seal Journeyman or Electrical Technologist Degree Construction Management Electrical Engineering Civil EngineeringThe following certifications/designations are considered an asset
P.Eng. Designation
PMP Designation Gold Seal Certification Construction safety certificationsExperience as a tradesperson in the electrical trade may substitute for education requirements.SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Proficient knowledge and understanding of:
Contract management
Construction scheduling, planning, and execution
Blue print reading
Project structural design interpretation
Financial statements – read and comprehend
Established utilities practices, procedures and techniques
Applicable local and provincial labour codes
Managing / leading union and non-union staff
Business operations processes
Organization and time managementProficient user of:
MS Office (Word, Excel)
Microsoft Project (required) JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP systemBid2
