The , the research arm of , a provincial cancer care organization based in beautiful and scenic British Columbia, invites applications for a new Multidisciplinary Research Chair.
This endowed chair is dedicated to advancing clinical research capacity at BC Cancer in critical areas supporting multidisciplinary research including oncological cancer care, through improved diagnostics, outcomes or health services research, surgical approaches, novel therapeutics or supportive care.
BC Cancer has a world-renowned reputation for excellence and innovation in oncology for over 85 years with a strong track record in clinical trials and outcomes research. BC Cancer has a strong research program conducted at the BC Cancer Research Institute (BCCRI) and its regional cancer centres. There is a long-standing tradition at BC Cancer of cutting-edge research in medical physics, radiation oncology, population health, genomics and molecular diagnostics, clinical trials, molecular imaging, and innovative therapeutics.
We seek a visionary clinician scientist with a proven track record of academic excellence to lead an innovative research program in clinical research. The position is targeted at all career stages if applicants have a demonstrated track record of clinical or translational research achievements in oncology. Applicants should have an MD or MD/PhD and be eligible for licensure for clinical practice in the Province of British Columbia and clinical privileges at BC Cancer.
Examples of research areas include the development of novel approaches to diagnose, treat, follow, and support patients with cancer in their journey from diagnosis to cure. Further, research areas could also be focused on a very diverse range of expertise such as pathology, radiology, nuclear medicine, psychiatry, palliative medicine, physiatry, hemato-oncology, surgical specialties, and medical genetics.
Successful candidates will be advanced for a clinical or partner track appointment at the , in a division or department aligned with their expertise within the Faculty of Medicine.
BC Cancer provides prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, research, and education to improve the lives of cancer patients in British Columbia. Part of the Provincial Health Services Authority, BC Cancer operates six regional cancer centres in Abbotsford, Kelowna, Prince George, Surry, Vancouver, and Victoria. It is actively expanding its presence with the construction of new cancer centres in Surrey, Burnaby, Nanaimo, and Kamloops.
The successful applicant will be offered a position in one of the six regional cancer centres, based on research and clinical interests and requirements.
The BCCRI’s flagship research building, the LJ Blackmore Research Centre, is in Vancouver, British Columbia and provides access to basic, translational, clinical and population health researchers, in addition to state-of-the-art research laboratories. The BC cancer patient population is uniformly treated within the provincial cancer program allowing access to clinically annotated biobanks and outcomes databases. Additional resources at the BCCRI include a pathogen free Animal Resource Centre and Genetic Modeling Core, Flow Cytometry Facility, and access to .
Minimal qualifications for this position include a MD or PhD/MD with an outstanding record of research achievements, including high-impact publications, significant grant funding, and contributions to the advancement of cancer science.
