Senior Mechanical Piping Designer – BBA Consultants

Your future role on our team:
You will be delivering high‑quality 2D/3D piping solutions for mining and hydropower projects across Canada and internationally, while mentoring junior designers and building lasting client relationships.
- Perform piping 3D modelling and generate piping deliverables such as isometric drawings, general arrangements, piping plans and details.
- Work with cutting‑edge 3D scanning technology and point clouds.
- Lead piping design scopes and supervise other piping designers in your project team.
- Initiate development of all required discipline deliverables for the assigned area.
- Manage and develop piping design estimates, budgets, schedules and staffing needs for projects.
- Plan, develop, organize and control project‑specific criteria or standards (pipe supports, material specifications and design criteria).
- Lead and prepare piping scope in proposals.
- Collaborate with pipe stress engineers on piping design.
- Receive and distribute design instructions pertaining to plant design requirements and procedures.
- Update PFDs and P&r documents.
- Assess client satisfaction and maintain close relations with clients.
- Determine costs and quantities in accordance with client needs.
- On assignment to the field, support construction in drawing and specification interpretations, design modifications, scheduling, and system checkout and testing.
- Perform cross‑discipline checking of drawings and 3D models.
- Conduct 3D model reviews internally and with clients.
- Participate in checking and review of isometrics and piping drawings.
- Communicate with vendors and ensure vendor data is used efficiently in designs.
- Participate in coaching and mentoring of junior and intermediate designers.

- 10+ years of relevant experience in piping layout and design drafting in mining or hydropower.
- Mechanical Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of mechanical/piping codes, building codes and standards.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical/piping engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
- Experience with in a large, multidisciplinary project environment.
- Experience with greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Knowledge of 3D CAD tools such as Smart 3D, Solid Works, CADworx and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of 3D point clouds considered an asset.
- Initiative to identify tasks that need completion and accept responsibility to see assignments through to final stage.
- Can work in a multidisciplinary project team with a priority on collaboration.
- Bilingual (English and French) is not necessary but would be advantageous for this position.
- Annual base salary between $105,100 and $128,400.
