Position: Asphalt Laboratory Technologist (2025022567)

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Asphalt Laboratory Technologist to join our team in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials.

As our Asphalt Laboratory Technologist, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing high and advanced complexity of asphalt materials testing;
  • Marshall and Superpave Mix Design testing;
  • Marshall and Superpave Mix Compliance testing;
  • Performing calibrations and routine repairs of laboratory equipment.

Qualifications and Assets

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a relevant post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field and/or at least three years of progressive related experience working in an asphalt testing laboratory.

As our ideal candidate, you’ll join us with excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills combined with your technical knowledge and experience. This position would appeal to those who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are able to work effectively in a team and on their own.

Finally, you will also have the following:

  • Completion of a related post-secondary program in Civil Engineering Technology is preferred;
  • CCIL Asphalt Testing Certification is preferred;
  • Experience with MMCD and BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit Specifications and procedures, ASTM and AASHTO;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing); and,
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required.
