The District Energy Utility Operator is responsible for performing preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities, as well as monitoring system performance at various district energy utility operations in the Lower Mainland. This position reports directly to the Area Supervisor and collaborates with them and the Area Manager to maximize utility availability and reliability, customer satisfaction, and increase operational excellence.
Major Accountabilities- Participates in site hazard assessments, job hazard assessments, field level hazard assessments and site inspections and the development of safety documentation such as OERPs, SJP, SWPs, ERP and SOPs.
- Regularly monitors all equipment relating to district energy utility systems in our service area on site and via the SCADA system to ensure equipment is working as intended.
- Performs preventative maintenance as scheduled.
- Identifies and reports performance issues and takes corrective action to prevent injuries, financial loss, reduction in utility availability/reliability and system failure.
- Troubleshoots and performs required repairs on all site equipment to ensure safe and optimal operation.
- Enters detailed maintenance logs and records into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Provides after-hours emergency response, and acts as first responder to operational emergency call-out situations as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Work in plant and field environments.
- Exposure to water, chemicals, hazardous materials, and noise.
- Heavy lifting/moving, 50lbs.
- Standing for long periods of time and climbing.
- May work at heights, in confined spaces, and in inclement weather conditions.
- Rotating shifts.
- Participate in on-call and scheduled overtime rotation.
- 4th Class Power Engineer.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical equipment, including boilers, cooling towers, chillers, pumps, valves, piping, and fittings.
- Biomass experience an asset.
- HVAC system experience an asset.
- Valid driver’s license; must be able to provide a driver’s abstract.
- SCADA and HMI experience an asset.
- Controls and instrumentation experience an asset.
- First Aid Level I an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
