Come work as a Nurse Practitioner with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)! The UPCC provides urgent care for patients with non‑life‑threatening injuries, illnesses and conditions that should be addressed within 12–24 hours. It operates 7 days per week, year round (Mon‑Sat 0800‑2200, Sunday and holidays 0900‑1700). The clinic provides team‑based care with off‑site rapid access to X‑ray, ultrasound and labs. Patients are linked to appropriate care pathways including specialists, social services and primary care.
All treatment and follow‑up are integrated with existing Primary Care providers.
The ideal candidate combines recent experience in primary care with urgent or emergent care, and understands the importance of foundational primary care. Responsibilities- Be responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment of patients, diagnosing diseases and conditions.
- Initiate treatment, including health‑care management, therapeutic interventions and prescribing medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards and employer policies.
- Provide professional guidance to other health professionals and participate autonomously as a member of interdisciplinary health teams.
- Collaborate with clients and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that impact clients, families and communities.
- Develop and implement population‑based, evidence‑based strategies to improve health and participate in policy‑making and quality improvement activities.
- Participate in peer, program and self‑review to evaluate service outcomes at client, community and population levels.
- Be responsible for own professional development and maintain competence, as well as maintain privileges as active medical staff as required.
- Report to an Operational Director and hold key accountabilities for quality assurance and patient safety within the VCH Regional Department of Nurse Practitioners.
- Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Prior experience as a Nurse Practitioner is an asset but the position is open to all motivated applicants.
- Ability to perform the full scope of NP duties and responsibilities.
- Maintain core and non‑core privileges and be active medical staff within VCH’s Department as required.
- Apply knowledge of developmental stages, behavioral sciences, pathophysiology, psychopathology, epidemiology and evidence‑based practice to clinical diagnosis and management.
- Apply pharmacology knowledge to prescribing and evaluating treatment responses.
- Communicate and collaborate with patients and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self‑care and prognosis.
- Collaborate, consult and formally refer clients to physicians and other health professionals when appropriate.
- Critically assess health research literature to determine best practices and introduce education and evidence‑based research.
- Assess and recognise population health trends and plan implement prevention and health promotion strategies.
- Implement and evaluate planned change.
- Define the areas of practice and client population for whom the position is competent to provide health‑care services.
- Apply leadership skills within a program and team setting.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
