Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Solid Organ Transplant (Post-Assessment)

Registered Nurse – Post‑Transplant Team, Vancouver General Hospital

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is looking for a Registered Nurse to join the Post‑Transplant team at Vancouver General Hospital. Apply today!

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess clients post‑solid organ transplantation requiring admission to the Solid Organ Transplant (SOT) Clinic and coordinate interdisciplinary assessment and follow‑up treatment throughout their lifespan.
  • Plan, implement and review client education using experience and knowledge of content area and adult education principles.
  • Consult, confer and collaborate with team members and other health care givers addressing health issues of this client group.
  • Participate on various internal and external multidisciplinary committees as a representative of transplant services.
  • Review literature, analyze trends and recommend changes to modify current nursing practices for this client group.
Education & Experience
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of two (2) years of recent, related experience including one year of experience in adult patient education or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family‑centred model of care.
  • Knowledge of the BCCNM standards of practice for registered nurses.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of evidence‑based clinical practice related to solid organ transplantation.
  • Knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member, leader and facilitator.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate technique, and facilitate learning with clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, clients and their families, both one‑on‑one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated listening and information‑seeking skills that promote communication and lead to a co‑operative approach to problem‑solving within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, establish workload priorities in collaboration with others and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of equipment, and in techniques appropriate to the education and treatment of clients post transplantation.
  • Computer literacy with word processing and patient information system skills.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly‑funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
