Licensed Practical Nurse, Hemodialysis
The salary range for this position is CAD $32.84/Hr.
- CAD $41.35/Hr.
We are seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Hemodialysis Unit as a vital member of the integrated nephrology team. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, you will provide high-quality practical nursing services in a dynamic and specialized environment, performing pre-dialysis, dialysis, and post-dialysis care. You will collaborate closely with the interprofessional team, ensuring safe and effective patient interventions while working independently within the scope of practice.

- Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies, and successful completion of a recognized Dialysis Program for Licensed Practical Nurses plus one (1) year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. Current basic cardiac life support certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Hemodialysis and procedures appropriate for the areas of service.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to work as a member in an interdisciplinary team.

- Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents patient care during pre-dialysis, dialysis, and post-dialysis periods.
- Explains care plan to patients/families and provides support, encouragement, and educational materials.
- Performs patient admission duties, including assessing condition and planning nursing care with RN and nephrology team.
- Conducts nursing duties for hemodialysis (e.g., weighing patients, cannulation of fistulas/grafts, continuous heparin regulation with RN guidance).
- Collaborates with RN and nephrology team for additional nursing functions as needed.
- Monitors patients, recognizes changes, and communicates issues to RN for appropriate intervention.
- Documents patient care activities and observations during pre, intra, and post-dialysis.
- Collaborates with RN to assess changes in patients and determine appropriate care.
