Intermediate Full Stack Developer - Contract

Intergalactic is looking to contract an Intermediate Full Stack Engineer on a project by project basis.

You love working on challenging projects and ensuring that they are delivered to the highest quality. You also like to work with other smart, skilled, passionate developers and help inform tech direction and best practices. You work well independently but can also work directly with clients, designers and other developers delivering projects from concept and proposal through to development and delivery.

Projects range from complex web site builds (e.g. global virtual events platform) to real-time multi-user web AR solutions to custom apps using Unity and related tech. Our clients include Cisco, Brand Live, SAP, Microsoft, Xbox, EY and Thatcham Research. We’re a fast-moving company where you’ll see the work you do put into action.

We collaborate with design and event production companies from around the world to bring brilliant ideas to life.

What you’ll do:

• Full‑Cycle Development:
  Develop, test & deploy features for both client‑side (UI/UX) and server‑side (logic, APIs, databases) custom web applications and interactive projects
• Collaboration:
  
  Work with designers, product managers, & other engineers in cross‑functional teams.
• Code Quality:
  Write maintainable, secure, & high‑performance code; participate in code reviews & enforce standards.
• Problem Solving:
  Debug & resolve technical issues of moderate complexity; optimize applications.
• Ownership:
  Take responsibility for tasks, ship features with minimal guidance, & contribute to technical roadmaps.
• Imagineer Solutions:
  Contribute ideas for new envelope pushing experiences, solve business and marketing problems, and estimate on creative briefs as part of team ideation sessions.
• Best Practices:
  Produce secure, clean, efficient, high quality code based on specifications and best practices. Keep up to date on latest tech and trends and present these to the larger team.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• 3+ years work experience using React
  
  JS (NextJS)
• 3+ years work experience using NodeJS
• 3+ years work experience API development skills: JSON, graph
  
  QL, etc
• 2 - 3+ years work experience working with databases (No
  
  SQL - Mongo
  
  DB/Redis and SQL - MySQL, Postgre
  
  SQL)
• 2 - 3+ years work experience working with headless CMS implementations
• 2 - 3+ years working with the following tools:
  Git, Docker, AWS/Azure/GCP
• Ability to design secure and testable code
• Be curiosity driven and creative

Nice to haves (we know it's a lot for one person):

• Agency experience
• Experience / proficiency with three.js
• Familiarity with Dev Ops: AWS / Azure / GCP proficiency

We operate on a hybrid model (5 of 10 days - but flexible) with a dog friendly "exposed post and beam" office in Yaletown, Nespresso coffee and healthful snacks and drinks provided. Please note that while contractors are not required to work from the office, if possible, it is encouraged to come into the office from time to time for collaboration.
