As a System Safety Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in the planning, development, and maintenance of WSP’s System Safety Management System for railway projects. Your expertise will directly contribute to the safety and efficiency of critical infrastructure across Canada.

What You Can Expect To Do Here
  • Develop and maintain WSP’s System Safety Management System for railway projects
  • Prepare comprehensive System Safety Plans, Safety and Assurance Reports, and Safety Cases in line with EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129 standards
  • Lead safety assessment processes, including hazard identification, risk analysis, and safety requirements allocation
  • Define safety requirements for all aspects of railway systems (civil, architectural, electrical, mechanical, hardware, and software)
  • Oversee safety goals and the implementation of Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) for safety functions, ensuring robust documentation
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, suppliers, contractors, and regulatory authorities to communicate and coordinate safety requirements
  • Supervise verification and validation activities to ensure safety‑critical components and systems meet performance standards
  • Implement risk reduction strategies to ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) and manage hazard transfer processes, including client acceptance
  • Foster system safety awareness and competence within design teams, ensuring all members involved in safety‑critical activities are properly qualified
  • Participate in System Assurance Audits and drive continuous improvement by implementing lessons learned and best practices
What You’ll Bring To WSP
  • Strong skills in developing safety‑related documentation (policies, objectives, strategies, communication plans)
  • P.Eng designation or eligibility for certification in a Canadian province (or equivalent)
  • At least 8 years of experience in System Safety Management, ideally with large‑scale railway systems
  • Proven application of System Safety Management principles in compliance with EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129
  • Experience with CMREA and IEC
    61508 is an asset
  • Team spirit, rigor, leadership, and a passion for safety
