Overview

Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH) is looking to expand its Emergency Medicine group and is seeking certified individuals (FRCPC Emergency Medicine, CCFP EM, or ABEM) to join our collegial team. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, full-service ED where you will see everything from trauma cases to reductions. We currently have a strong team of 15 emergency physicians with an additional group of locums who support approximately 60,000 visits annually through our department.

There is excellent specialist support on-site including CT and MRI, and at least double physician coverage for most of the day and evenings. We have an ICU with strong internist support, and regional or local coverage for urology, ophthalmology, and ENT. We have a PCI centre, Level II Trauma Centre, and other sub-specialties readily available within 40 minutes down the valley.

We are also a new site for UBC’s Family Medicine residency program, offering the opportunity to impact medical students and residents.

Nestled in the Okanagan Valley’s mountains and lakes, Vernon Jubilee Hospital has approximately 196 beds, serving more than 11,000 admitted patients and performing around 13,000 surgeries annually. The emergency department has more than 30 beds and two trauma bays. Full-time positions consist of 12 shifts per month with the option for part-time locum coverage and potential transition to a permanent position.

• You will hold, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
• You will have, or be eligible for, the Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
• You will have, or be eligible for, your CCFP (EM). You will also be considered if you have the CCFP and emergency experience.
• If you are US-trained with ABMS certification in emergency medicine, you may be eligible to practice under the USA certified class.
• You will have coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association.
