Overview
Be among the first 25 applicants. The local physician group is hiring inpatient care physicians to provide full-time, part-time or locum inpatient care at Saanich Peninsula Hospital (SPH). Family medicine inpatient care is a highly valued and rewarding service in our community hospital.
Hospital Overview
SPH is a 65-bed acute care community hospital with an 18-bed emergency department that cares for 31,000 patients/year. SPH is the primary referral hospital for the Southern Gulf Islands such that the total population served is approximately 87,000. Tertiary care support and consultants are 30 minutes away by road at Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital. Medical Imaging, Laboratory services as well as CT scanner, operates 07:30 - 24:00 daily plus on call overnight.
Responsibilities
Provide coverage to a range of inpatients, including high acuity, palliative/end of life care, rehabilitation-focused, and dementia care.
Flexible shifts are available with the understanding to provide a minimum of six weeks per year.
Opportunities to work in the emergency department, where you would care for patients within the scope of a family physician (extra ER training is not required), are also available.
Experience in Palliative Care, MAiD, or long term care are considered an asset, but not required.

Located just north of Victoria, the Saanich Peninsula is within the territories of the Tsartlip, Pauquachin, Tsawout, Tseycum First Nations and made up of the municipalities of Central and North Saanich, and the City of Sidney.
Community Information
As of 2019, the population of the Saanich Peninsula Local Health Area was 70,356 and 20% identified as immigrants, 15% were age 75+, 9.8% were visible minorities, and 5.4% were Indigenous. The Saanich Peninsula offers a mixture of rural, urban and farming communities, with an extensive choice of outdoor recreational activities such as golfing, hiking, cycling, sailing, canoeing and kayaking, windsurfing, and fishing.
This community boasts a long shoreline with sandy beaches, is home of the world-famous Butchart Gardens and has quick access to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (to Vancouver and the Southern Gulf Islands) and the Victoria International Airport.
