About the Role

A well-established civil and structural engineering consultancy in Wakefield is seeking an experienced CAD Technician to join its civil engineering team. The firm delivers practical, efficient design solutions for commercial, industrial, and retail developments — including warehouses, offices, and retail parks — with very little residential work.

You’ll be a key part of the drainage design team, preparing and coordinating detailed design drawings and 3D models for planning, tender, and construction stages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Producing detailed drainage and external works drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D .
  • Developing and refining designs using Micro Drainage or Causeway Flow .
  • Coordinating designs with structural, architectural, and environmental teams.
  • Supporting preparation of technical submissions for planning and approval.
  • Ensuring designs comply with current standards, codes, and best practice.
About You

We’re looking for a technically skilled and detail-oriented CAD Technician who can work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Essential requirements
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a civil engineering consultancy environment.
  • Proven background in commercial drainage and external works design.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D – essential.
  • Experience with Micro Drainage and / or Causeway Flow .
  • Thorough understanding of UK drainage design standards and SuDS principles.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with Section 104, 106, and 278 design processes.
  • Experience liaising with local authorities and utility providers.
