. This is a permanent full‑time role (42 hours per week) based at Pinderfield & Pontefract Hospital, Wakefield. You will receive a competitive salary and benefits package.

Overview

As an Electrical Craftsperson you will work directly under Technical Supervisors to ensure the safe and continuous operation of electrical engineering services and building plant. Your team will include specialist subcontractors and will deliver work to the highest standards for our healthcare clients. You will perform both planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive work orders, managing tasks through to completion, including fault diagnosis and part sourcing.

Responsibilities
  • Perform efficient electrical maintenance on all relevant assets.
  • Manage planned PPM schedules and reactive work orders raised by client representatives or on‑site personnel.
  • Conduct fault diagnosis, sourcing parts, and ensuring best practice standards are followed.
  • Collaborate with the wider M&E team and support non‑electrical tasks when required.
  • Maintain records of all activities per Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Support policy implementation and safe working procedures as a Competent Person (Electrical).
  • Operate and control all engineering planned maintenance schemes, undertaking essential repairs and general maintenance.
  • Use cause‑effect analysis and detailed examination to resolve complex hospital infrastructure issues.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance inspections, commissioning, and testing according to published procedures.
  • Complete test certificates, report sheets, and risk assessments.
  • Use all relevant tools and equipment safely and in compliance with EQUANS Guidelines.
  • Carry out emergency repairs as required (may involve overtime).
  • Participate in shift roster – unsocial hours with shift allowance.
  • Report accidents, complaints, defects, near misses, and incidents following EQUANS procedure.
  • Maintain building services monitoring, reporting defects to Technical Supervisors.
  • Advise on the relationship with other maintenance crafts.
  • Use Building Management Systems (BMS) and CAFM electronic data devices to record maintenance.
  • Provide feedback on PPM results and fire safety.
  • Communicate with wards/departments to ensure planned/re‑active work is completed to satisfaction.
  • Supervise, communicate and evaluate quality of other trade staff.
  • Follow statutory regulations, CDM, Good Practice, and maintain procurement records.
Complexity
  • Work according to HTM and statutory compliance.
  • Be certified (Appointed Person) in critical systems (Electrical Low Voltage) with re‑assessment every three years.
  • Support policy and safe‑working procedures as a Competent Person.
  • Manage engineering maintenance schemes and essential repair work.
  • Fault find on complex hospital infrastructure (low voltage power, lighting, UPS, IPPs, generators).
  • Carry out PPM inspections, commissioning and testing.
  • Produce test certificates, drawing alterations, risk assessment sheets.
  • Use relevant tools and equipment, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Perform emergency repairs with possible overtime.
  • Undergo training for new techniques and technologies.
  • Interact with other maintenance trades.
  • Monitor building services and report defects.
  • Work with Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Record maintenance in CAFM systems.
  • Provide feedback on PPM results and fire safety.
  • Know contract KPI’s for compliance and service delivery.
  • Communicate with wards to plan and complete work.
  • Supervise and develop other trade staff.
  • Maintain compliance with statutory regulation, CDM, Good Practice, and record‑keeping.
Qualifications or Required Experience
  • Recognised Electrical/Engineering Apprenticeship – HNC, ONC, City & Guilds or equivalent.
  • BS7671 (18th Edition) knowledge.
  • Must obtain Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
