The Community Champion Co‑Ordinator will be responsible for establishing and supporting a network of Community Champions across Lupset. This role will include coordinating outreach activities
, making use of the mobile community centre (minibus) to connect with residents and promote community health and wellbeing, alongside staff at St George’s. The postholder will also collaborate with partners
and
facilitate the Lupset Partnership Group
, ensuring effective communication and shared learning. The Coordinator will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the impact of the Community Champions network and Lupset Partnerships Group.

This post has been created in collaboration with community partners working in Lupset and is part of Wakefield Council’s Building Healthy and Sustainable Communities project. The post is initially funded for 3 years.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

A. Establish and Support a Network of Community Champions
  • To identify and recruit Community Champions from existing groups, communities, St George’s volunteers and partner organisations, including advertising, responding to enquiries, sending and processing applications; reference requests, and any other pre‑engagement checks in liaison with the Volunteer Co‑ordinator.
  • Support the induction and support process for new Community Champions, including promoting Citizen Coin participation.
  • Ensure all Community Champion records are maintained accurately and stored using the electronic and paper‑based systems in line with GDPR.
  • Identify and arrange any training required for Champions, including responsive training offers (e.g. Safe Talk).
  • Administer the annual DBS update checks in a timely manner.
  • To work with others to gather quantitative and qualitative evidence of Community Champions’ journeys.
  • To recognise, record and celebrate the contributions and successes made by Community Champions.
  • Coordinate regular outreach in Lupset using St George’s minibus as a mobile community centre, alongside community centre staff and partner organisations
  • Share information about local services and gather community feedback
  • Support the development of new community‑led groups and initiatives.
  • Work with Comms and Marketing Officer to develop accessible communication strategies to promote the project.
C. Collaborate with Partners and Facilitate the Lupset Partnership Group
  • Facilitate and provide organisational support to the Lupset Partnership Group, ensuring collaboration from partner organisations and services working in and/or based within Lupset.
  • Act as a conduit between services and communities, sharing and receiving information.
D. Monitor and Evaluate the Impact of the Community Champions Network and Lupset Partnership Group
  • Working with the Service Manager, support the ongoing development of systems and processes to meet the outcomes of this project.
  • Working with the Service Manager to gather evidence for funder reports.
  • Record qualitative data such as quotes, case studies and digital media to support evaluation reports.
  • Use learning to shape and adapt the project throughout its lifecycle.
D. General duties – Safety, Equality & Diversity, Quality and Safeguarding
  • To work collaboratively with other staff at St George’s to ensure that planning for the whole company is cohesive, promotes intra‑departmental partnerships and meets the wider aims of organisation.
  • To be responsible for health & safety of self, staff and service users within service area.
  • To comply with data protection, GDPR and information sharing systems.
  • To maintain safeguarding standards in all aspects of work with colleagues, volunteers and community members and work closely with the DSL for vulnerable adults.
  • To attend organisation meetings as and when required, to present, give information and update on your area of responsibility.
E. Scope of Responsibility E1 Responsibility for Supervision, Direction of Employees
