Role Summary

In response to ongoing projects and strategic growth initiatives, Our Client is seeking an experienced Highways Structural Engineer. This pivotal role is designed to support the assessment, inspection, design, and ongoing maintenance of essential highway structures, including bridges, culverts, and retaining walls. The position offers a unique chance to make a significant impact within a busy highways team, ensuring safety and durability across critical infrastructure networks.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct structural assessments and inspections of highway-related infrastructure components.
  • Design and develop solutions for the repair, upgrade, or new construction of bridges, culverts, and retaining structures.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure compliance with local standards and regulations.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and supporting documentation for various project phases.
  • Provide expert guidance on structural integrity and safety considerations.
  • Work independently within a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven track record as a Structural Engineer specialising in highways or civil infrastructure.
  • Strong practical experience in assessing and designing highway structures such as bridges, culverts, or walls.
  • Familiarity with local authority or regional standards and regulations related to highway engineering.
  • Competent in using relevant design and analysis software.
  • Ability to work autonomously, demonstrating reliability and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable experience in public-sector or consultancy environments is highly desirable.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge of the North East highway network or similar regional infrastructure.
  • Previous experience in inspection regimes and maintenance planning for highway structures.
  • Certification or professional membership with recognised engineering institutions.
