Job Description Role Purpose

The Scheduler is responsible for the day‑to‑day coordination, allocation, and optimisation of field engineering resources to ensure that all planned and reactive works are delivered efficiently and in line with customer SLAs. Working at the heart of operational delivery, the Scheduler maintains real‑time oversight of job progress, resource availability, and service performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily Scheduling & Resource Allocation
    • Produce, manage, and optimise daily work schedules for field engineers and subcontractors.
    • Allocate jobs based on skills, location, availability, and operational priority.
    • Adjust schedules dynamically to account for job delays, emergencies, unplanned absences, or client changes.
    • Ensure all jobs scheduled include accurate site details, access arrangements, and required documentation.
  • Real‑Time Operational Control
    • Monitor live job progress throughout the day and proactively respond to issues impacting delivery.
    • Communicate directly with engineers to manage job handovers, reassignments, and sequencing.
    • Escalate operational risks or repeated delays to Supervisors or Operational Managers.
    • Support emergency or high‑priority call‑outs by mobilising available resources quickly.
  • Coordination & Communication
    • Work collaboratively with the Service Desk, Planners, Project Managers, and Field Supervisors to maintain smooth workflow.
    • Provide timely updates to internal stakeholders and clients regarding schedule changes or service impacts.
    • Ensure that resource conflicts are resolved promptly and effectively.
    • Build strong relationships with engineers to ensure clear communication and consistent delivery.
  • Compliance & Readiness Checks
    • Verify engineer readiness before deployment (certifications, training, PPE, equipment requirements).
    • Confirm access arrangements including permits, lock codes, inductions, and third‑party approvals.
    • Ensure all scheduled works are compliant with United Infrastructure and customer‑specific safety requirements.
    • Support reporting and logging of site incidents or delays as required.
  • Data Accuracy & System Management
    • Maintain up‑to‑date schedules and job statuses within operational systems (CRM, ERP, scheduling platforms).
    • Ensure accurate data entry, including job start/finish times, materials used, and site notes.
    • Support operational reporting by providing schedule data and daily performance summaries.
    • Identify inefficiencies or system gaps and suggest improvements to enhance operational flow.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience in scheduling, dispatching, workforce coordination, or a similar role within infrastructure, telecoms, utilities, engineering, or construction.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage fast‑paced operational workloads.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially when working with field teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools and comfortable using scheduling or job management systems.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy when handling operational data.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of field engineering workflows (installation, maintenance, civils, rigging).
  • Understanding of H&S requirements including RAMS, permits, and work‑at‑height rules.
  • Experience working in SLA‑driven environments or with major infrastructure clients.
Qualifications
  • GCSEs or equivalent required; further education in business support, operations, or project coordination advantageous.
  • Training or certification in scheduling, operations management, or project support desirable.
