Position: Consultant Psychiatrist - Adult In-patients (Austen Ward)

Consultant psychiatrist responsibilities for all patients on Austen ward include:

  • Carrying out comprehensive psychiatric assessments and providing treatment for inpatients.
  • Supporting staff in managing psychiatric emergencies.
  • Conducting patient reviews and leading multidisciplinary ward reviews, CPA reviews, and multi-professional meetings.
  • Serving as the Responsible Clinician (RC) under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and performing related duties in accordance with the code of practice.
  • Providing verbal and written evidence to Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Manager's hearings.
  • Carrying out comprehensive Risk Assessments and participating in Trust's risk management processes such as Health Risk Assessment and Management and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangement Meetings.
  • Providing medical leadership to the team.
  • Liaising with carers and maintaining effective communication with other services.
  • The post is based at Hollins Park Hospital in Warrington, on Austen Ward, a 17-bed, all-male general adult inpatient unit supported by a team of up to three junior doctors, depending on training rotations. The successful candidate will have clinical supervision responsibilities for these trainees, contributing to their development and the delivery of high-quality care.

    This position has become available following the retirement of the previous Consultant, who served the Trust with distinction for over 20 years.

    The annual salary ranges from £109,725 to £145,478, plus a 10% R&R (non-contractual) and a 1% on-call allowance.
