Environmental Engineer, Safety Engineer
We are seeking an experienced HS&E Design & Construction Senior Safety Lead to play a critical role in embedding health and safety excellence throughout the design and construction phases of our projects. This position is pivotal in ensuring our plant designs meet the highest safety standards and comply with UK legislation, reducing conventional safety risks to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
You will provide subject matter expertise, strategic guidance, and assurance activities across design engineering teams, influencing stakeholders and regulators to deliver a repeatable and safe plant design.

Responsibilities- Lead the deployment of health and safety arrangements across design and construction phases.
- Support engineering teams in fulfilling CDM responsibilities and embedding safety into design packages.
- Produce performance reports and technical safety documentation (e.g., LRA, HAZOP, FMEA).
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (ONR) to ensure compliance during the Generic Design Assessment phase.
- Drive innovation and promote safety excellence through best practices.
- Conduct assurance activities to assess health and safety maturity.
- Mentor and develop health and safety team members.
- Support procurement processes to ensure competent subcontractors.
- Deliver training workshops to enhance safety culture.
- Chartered IOSH membership (or working towards).
- Degree in Health & Safety or related discipline.
- Experience in design safety within a regulated industry (nuclear, energy, infrastructure).
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and ALARP principles.
- Proven ability to prepare and evaluate technical safety reports.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
- Innovative mindset with a track record of improving safety outcomes.
- Salary: £57,500 - £75,600
- Benefits Allowance: £2,200
- Bonus:
Up to 12.5% - Holiday: 28 days + public holidays

Standard Rolls-Royce SMR pension - Additional: £250 new joiner payment
