HSE Recruitment are working with a leading engineering business on a Head of HSE & Engineering.

This is a field based role with regular travel across the UK.

The successful candidate will oversee a diverse national footprint of 90 sites, manage a team of 6 HSE and engineering professionals, and shape the future of infrastructure delivery across high-hazard environments. This is a rare opportunity to influence both operational safety and long-term engineering strategy in a business poised for rapid expansion.

We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Head of HSE & Engineering to lead compliance, safety, and infrastructure development across a business division. With a strong HSE foundation already in place, this role is focused on driving engineering transformation, capital deployment, and asset growth, particularly as the estate is expected to double in size by 2030.

• Lead HSE strategy and maintain compliance across all sites and assets
• Drive engineering transformation and capital planning over a 12–24 month horizon
• Oversee asset management, infrastructure standards, and project delivery
• Manage relationships with regulators, environmental consultancies, and planning authorities
• Ensure robust contractor management and supply chain performance
• Support forecourt and bunker engineering aligned to retail fuels growth strategy
• Liaise with internal stakeholders to align engineering with commercial and operational goals
• Provide leadership across a geographically dispersed team and estate

• Proven leadership in HSE and engineering across multi-site, high-hazard environments
• Strong understanding of tank assets, bunker engineering, and regulatory frameworks
• Experience in forecourt or retail fuels infrastructure is highly desirable
• Strategic thinker with capital planning and asset lifecycle expertise
• Comfortable managing national teams and external partnerships
• Able to balance compliance, commerciality, and operational delivery
• Familiar with planning permissions, and infrastructure scoping
