As Head of Project Controls, you’ll be at the heart of the UK’s energy transition, making a real impact on our cleaner, greener future.

Responsibilities
  • Establishing and managing project controls frameworks for major infrastructure projects, covering cost, risk, schedule, document, and change control.
  • Leading integrated project planning with planners, estimators, and project managers to set robust baselines and ensure consistency.
  • Monitoring and reporting on project performance, cost, schedule, earned value, and risk, providing critical insights to senior leadership.
  • Managing the change control process, ensuring all impacts are understood, documented, and agreed before implementation.
  • Coordinating governance inputs for board reviews, audits, and reports, ensuring accuracy and readiness.
  • Overseeing forecasting in partnership with Supply Chain, Commercial, and Finance teams for precise financial projections and resource allocation.
  • Driving risk and opportunity management, ensuring risk registers are actively managed and used to inform decisions.
  • Championing best practice across the Net Zero programme, promoting standards, tools, and templates to enhance delivery.
About You

You’re a decisive leader who inspires teams with a clear vision and a collaborative approach. Your integrity, resilience, and sense of humour help you build trust, diffuse tension, and foster innovation, even when managing complex priorities.

Key Requirements & Experience Essential:
  • Proven leadership in project controls for major infrastructure projects, ideally in energy, utilities, or regulated industries.
  • Deep expertise in planning and scheduling tools (e.g. P6, PRISM), estimating, cost control, forecasting, EVM, change and risk management, and document control.
  • Strong understanding of commercial contracts (especially NEC) and the integration of project controls.
  • Excellent data and analytical skills, able to spot trends, explain variances, and guide strategic decisions.
  • Organised, methodical, and adept at managing competing demands.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience leading teams in a high‑performance, data‑driven culture.
Desirable:
  • Familiarity with hydrogen or net zero infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
