You’ll handle complex transactions, oversee the capital closedown process, and provide expert technical advice to support accurate reporting and audit assurance.
Key Responsibilities

- Manage the Council’s asset, lease, and capital grants registers, including property valuations.
- Oversee the annual capital closedown process and support the production of the Statement of Accounts.
- Provide technical financial advice and respond to audit queries.
- Maintain and reconcile the capital ledger, posting financing adjustments and allocating resources.
- Contribute to investment proposals and ensure accurate depreciation in budgets.
- Monitor grants, act as cost centre manager for capital funds, and complete statutory returns on time.
What We’re Looking For
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in ownership of work.
- Initiative and proactive collaboration with colleagues.
- Adaptability and eagerness to learn in a dynamic environment.
- Strong Excel skills and ideally experience with financial systems.
- Experience in capital accounting – preferably within a local authority setting.
- Clear and confident communication of complex information.
Essential Requirements
- CCAB or CIMA qualified with substantial post‑qualification experience in a finance environment.
- Ability to manage complex technical areas and meet challenging deadlines.
- Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
Desirable

- Experience in local government finance and statutory reporting.
- Sound understanding of capital accounting principles.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- Flexible working options – hybrid and flexible schedule.
- Generous annual leave and local government pension scheme.
- Professional development opportunities and continuous learning.
- A supportive, collaborative team that values innovation and improvement.
- Work that matters – every decision and calculation supports community services and investments.
